Home Made Almond Milk

This is a follow up to the last article published on the 15/04/2013, titled “Milk & Osteoporosis”. There are a number of Milk alternatives on the market today, and one that is becoming increasingly popular is Almond milk, not only because it is delicious, but also because it is packed with nutrients. What few would realize is, fresh, raw Almond Milk can be made at home for a fraction of the cost, and with a much higher nutrient content than any of the products found in your supermarket.

Raw Almond Milk Recipe

–       2 cup’s raw almonds

–       One Nut Milk bag (can buy online or at any health food shop)

–       4 cups filtered water + more for soaking almonds

–        Sweetener of choice – maple syrup, agave, cinnamon, vanilla etc

Method

 

Step 1.

–       Soak 2 cup’s of almonds overnight (or all day) in a bowl of filtered water.

–       Strain and rinse soaked almonds put them into your blender with the 4 cups of filtered water.

–       Blend on high for 5 minutes.

Step 2.

–       Place the nut milk bag in a bowl and empty the blender into the bag.

–       Squeeze the milk through the bag into the bowl (being careful not to break the bag). The almond meal will stay in the bag and you’ll be left with just the Almond milk.

–       Rinse the blender and the lid. Pour the milk back into the blender and add the sweetener of your choice and the vanilla. I suggest you just add a solid tablespoon of whatever you choose first and when you make your second batch you can add more or less.

–       Blend again for a minute and that’s it!
